A CWMBRAN country lane was closed for nearly two hours after a car fell off a transporter lorry.

The incident happened in Malthouse Lane, Llantarnam, around 4.45pm on Tuesday.

Twenty-year-old Alexis Salter from Cwmbran said she saw the lorry while driving with her partner.

As it drove on, one of the cars on the back of the lorry fell off and was left in the road until police arrived, she said.

“The load was not secure as every tree it was hit was making the car move," she said.

“When he caught a lower tree the car got caught and came off. He drove off and came back around 30 minutes after, then two lorry drivers moved the car as the police showed up."

Large branches covered the road before they were cleared by council workers.

She added that they had a lucky escape: “If he hadn't off knocked such a large branch on the first tree my partner and I would have still been right behind it, but we stopped to move all the branches to use the road."

A spokesman from Gwent Police said: "We were called the scene of a car transporter having lost part of its load on Malthouse Lane, Llantarnam at approximately 5pm on August 11.

"A car fell from the back of the transporter and caused the closure of the road. The council recovered the vehicle and the road reopened approximately 90 minutes after the incident.

"No one was injured and no one was arrested."
