AN author brought up in Cwmbran has published the first in a series of mystery novels blending genealogy with the supernatural.

M.K. Jones’ first book, Three Times Removed, was published by Welsh publishing house Onion Custard earlier this year.

In the first volume, the central character Maggie teams up with detectives to research her past after falling in love with an abandoned Cwmbran house built by her great grandfather.

As she digs deeper into her ancestry, Maggie discovers a mystery of two girls – one murdered, and one who mysteriously disappears.

The story weaves between the past and the present, and characters start to interact across the space of many years.

M.K Jones said: “I believe every single family has a mystery in its past.

“It might be a villain or a superhero.

“I love to research family history and find out about genealogy and that’s how my book came into being.

“There is plenty more mystery to be found in families and history and I’m really looking forward to what comes next.

“There will be more supernatural elements coming along the way.

“For people who like to research family history, I hope it will be an interesting read for them and that they will be engaged by it.”

Mary Jones is now working on the second tome in the series, called the Genealogy Detectives.

The sequel is set to feature the 16th century Llanyrafon Manor in Cwmbran.

M.K. Jones worked as a teacher and in HR before embarking on her newly found, literary career.

She has two children and currently lives in Llandudno, north Wales.

Three Times Removed costs £9.99 and is available from bookshops and Amazon including in Kindle format.
