TWO schoolgirls from a Cwmbran primary school have raised £115 for a cancer charity by selling badges and ribbons to their classmates.

Ffion Millership and Mia Rehman designed and made the badges and ribbons before selling their creations at break times at Greenmeadow Primary School.

The pair raised money for Velindre and after this venture, the duo are looking forward to a little rest before their next fundraising plan.

“We are going to take a little break from this but we are definitely thinking of what we can do next,” said Mia, nine, of Hawks Road, Cwmbran.

“We sold badges and ribbons to our friends at school during the break times. We have sold so many that we have lost count.

“I would even come home from school and make more as they were so popular,” she added.

The pair worked together to raise the money, starting from the idea of supporting Velindre to selling them at school.

“Mia and I came up with the idea of raising money for cancer and we thought of things we could do together,” said Ffion, nine, of Marlborough Road, Cwmbran.

“We are thinking of helping to raise money for a Down’s syndrome charity as one of the children at the school has Down’s syndrome so we want to help.”

The teachers at Greenmeadow Primary School praised the entrepreneurial initiative shown by the pair as well as their commitment and organisation.

Deputy head teacher Jo Smith said: “They have proved to be little entrepreneurs as they’ve done this all off their own backs.

“It is fabulous to think how organise they are and committed to see it through to the end. We are very proud of them.”
