A YOUTH organisation in Cwmbran will received £5,000 to put towards helping its members learn an array of digital skills for the future.

Cwmbran Centre of Young People (CCYP) received the funding from the town’s branch of Santander, who offer a Community Plus scheme to local charitable organisations.

The funding will help provide vital equipment for the centre, but will also help in a range of other schemes which operate out of CCYP.

“It is vitally important for us to receive this funding from Santander,” said centre manager David Schofield.

“It will help us develop practical activities such as social enterprise and business orientated projects.

“But away from that, we do food banks for youngsters so this funding will go towards these not so technical projects too,” he added.

CCYP works with a range of young people from seven to 25 who have faced different barriers and the centre trains them in valuable skills.

“Without this funding, the people who come to the centre would not have these resources available to them,” said Mr Schofield.

“We will be using the money to help in the training processes of the young people who come to the centre.

"We work with those who find it difficult to break into the employment market or other barriers in their lives and we provide training schemes for them.”

Branch director Sharon Morgan and local business manager Katilea Hancock presented a cheque to the centre and are delighted to support CCYP.

“We received a nomination from one of the employees about a month ago in our branch and he gave us a brief outline of what the centre does,” said Mrs Hancock.

“Community is very high on our agenda at Santander. The funding is part of a community fund to which anyone can apply for as long as they are a registered charity,” said Mrs Morgan.

“We run a match donation scheme and we also run a number of community days too.”
