A LLANYRAFON man is raising money by jumping out of a plane to help support the cancer charity who helped cure his mother.

Luke Cozens, 25, of Ludlow Court, is scheduled to skydive from 13,000 feet on Saturday November 28 in support of Velindre.

His mother, Wendy Cozens, 57, was diagnosed with mouth cancer in 2009, but received the all clear in 2012 thanks to treatment from the organisation.

“I can’t wait to do the skydive next week and I have no fears about jumping out of the plane,” said Mr Cozens.

“It is nothing compared to what some people have gone and go through with cancer.”

His tandem skydive was only confirmed last week.

Explaining his motivation for the hair-raising stunt, he said: “My mum was diagnosed with mouth cancer after she went to the dentist for a routine check-up and they spotted something which they were unsure of.

“She was referred to the hospital but after a few months of chemotherapy at Velindre she managed to pull through and beat it.”

Mr Cozens, an employee at the Pontypool branch of Nationwide Building Society, thanked Velindre, who he called "wonderful".

Mrs Cozens said: “I am very proud of him and what he is about to do to raise money for cancer and I’ll go down to Swansea to support him."

“This is a great way of showing our gratitude to this fabulous organisation as many other people who are in a similar situation to the one I was in will not be as lucky as I was.”
