A TECHNOLOGY club for children and adults on the autistic spectrum has been set up in Cwmbran.

The Tech Club FYD, which is being funded by Follow Your Dreams charity, had their first session on Monday at the Power Station adult learning centre in Cwmbran.

Moira Hookings, a parent and organiser, believes this is the first of its kind in the area. She said the club's first session went well with 18 children in attendance. She said the idea came from seeing the tech club in Porthcawl with is also supported by the Follow Your Dreams charity.

She said: "We've had a great response with so much feedback. Everyone can't wait to come back next week.

"The aim of the club is for children and older people on the autistic spectrum to socialise in a safe environment. Parents and family members have a chance to help them knowing they are playing in a social, safe environment."

The club has had equipment donated including five Wii consoles, two PS2, two X-box 360 and a PS4. A Cwmbran companyT4 Tech donated tables, cables and members of staff came along to the club to help out.

Miss Hookings said the waiting list for the club is full and they are currently looking for a bigger venue to be able to cater for more people. They sold cakes which were donated from Greggs on the launch night which together with other donations has raised around £80 for the club.

The club takes place weekly on Mondays from 4.30pm to 6.15pm and cater for those aged 11 and upwards.
