THERE'S lots going on in Torfaen this half term

1) Join the festivities at Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre with its craft workshops from Tuesday May 31 to Friday June 3.

Starting at 10am and finishing at 3pm each day, children aged 5 to 13 can take part in themed activities from sketching portraits to wax resist drawings.

2) Find out what’s it like to be a farmer as Greenmeadow Community Farm host an array of seasonal events.

From Saturday May 28 to Sunday June 5, families can have plenty of fun in the holiday spirit from 10am to 5pm each day.

Alongside usual activities, from Saturday May 28 to Monday May 30 you can book a place on one of the two daily sheering demonstrations where members of the Gwent Guild of Weavers and Spinners then turn it into clothes before your very eyes.

From Tuesday May 31 to Saturday May 4, members of the public can take part in pig washing at 12.30pm and cheer on the pig racing at 2.30pm. Call on 01633 647662 or email greenmeadowcommunityfarm@torfaen.gov.uk for more information.

3) Take a trip back in time at the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway, with Big Ted waiting to greet children on board from Saturday May 28 to Monday May 30.

There will be a packed lunch provided for all children as the train takes a three and a half mile journey through the Brecon Beacons before stopping at Furnace Sidings for an underground tour. Trains will be running from 11am until just before 5pm.

4) Visit the St Peter’s School Bicentenary Exhibition at the Blaenavon World Heritage Centre throughout the week from 10am to 5pm.

The school was one of the first free schools to ever open in Wales and the array of historical artefacts are on display including more recent pictures of school events in the nineties. 5) Families can experience life as a miner at the Big Pit’s Coity Tip, which is hosting several days of Wild Whitsun activities.

From 10am to 4pm on Saturday May 28 to Sunday May 29, children can explore the tip, which is slowly being reclaimed by nature. Booking is essential. Call 029 2057 3650 for more information.

6) Derek Acorah will be bringing his brand new musical special ‘Soul Reunion Tour’ to Cwmbran’s Congress Theatre on Sunday May 29 from 7.30pm to 10pm. Call 01633 868239 for more information.

7) Children aged two to nine can get their sporting cap on at a Little Shooters Netball session on Sunday May 29. Classes will be run from 9.40am to 11.25am at Cwmbran’s Fairwater Leisure Centre. Call 07970666002 or email enquiries@little-shooters.co.uk to find out more.

8) Valley Gymnastics Academy is hosting a Go Gym session on Sunday May 29 for children aged 4 and above.
