A HORSE riding club based in Cwmbran is reeling after the latest act of vandalism at the club’s premises in the town.

The portable toilets were burnt to the ground at the weekend, with members finding the remnants of the portaloos on the morning of Saturday, May 21.

Torfaen Riding Club has been targeted in the past, with vandals attempting to break into the offices and containers which held expensive riding equipment.

“We have been targeted by vandals in the past, as they have tried to get into our offices at our site which is close to Chapel Lane in Cwmbran,” said club secretary Natasha Waters.

“They have also tried to get into the containers where we store a lot of our riding equipment, some of which is very expensive.”

The riding club is made up of volunteers, who help both adults and children from across Torfaen explore their passion of horse riding.

The club is a non-profit organisation and the club secretary believes that to recoup the loss of the portable toilets, the club may look to start fundraising.

“It is awful for the children and the adults who used this place for horse riding,” she said.

“All the money that we put into the club comes from fundraisers and now we have seen this latest act of vandalism, we will have to do something else to raise some money.”

The club was set up in the hope of creating a safer environment to ride horses, with a number of the group worried about the use of horses on roads.

“What we have seen is that over the years, a number of the troublemakers who were once targeting us have grown up and become members themselves,” said Ms Waters.

“I can’t understand what would possess someone to do this. To them it may seem like a bit of fun but to us, it is very important to our club.

“There seems to be a lot of fires in Cwmbran at the moment. We had the two schools at Coed Eva and St David’s suffering from fire and then there was that accidental fire near us last week. I don’t know what’s going on at the moment here,” she said.
