MORE than £4,600 has now been raised for inspirational Cwmbran teenager Emily Clark, who died in March after suffering from blood cancer.

More than 200 people have donated to the online fundraising page which was set up in memory of 18-year-old Emily, who dreamt of going to Reading University to study microbiology.

She had marked one year being cancer free shortly before her death, after suffering with non-Hodgkin lymphoma twice.

Donna Dunn, Emily’s mum, has been leading the campaign which will raise money for a new bone marrow transplant unit to be built in Cardiff.

Ms Dunn said the team of bone marrow transplant doctors “deserve a unit to fit the level of expertise, passion and commitment they give to their patients”.

“Emily may never fulfil her dreams but she could have a long lasting legacy by inspiring you to donate to help build the only transplant unit in Wales,” she said.

Now £4,651 has been raised on the online page – just over a fifth of Ms Dunn’s £20,000 target.

In a heartfelt blog post written earlier last month, Ms Dunn wrote: “There has been tears every day since we lost her.

“I have tried to stay focused on legacy building.

“The sympathy flowers have died. Cards stopped arriving, phone stopped ringing. The general senses is life has returned to some sort of normal. But in reality life is far from normal.

“There is an empty seat at the dinner table. My life pre-diagnosis doesn’t exist.

“Nobody wants to forget Emily. But sometimes it is too difficult to explain. We talk about her at home every day.

“Things still belong to her. It’s her bedroom. Her books. She is still here, alive and kicking in our hearts and memories.”

“Smiling through tears. Laughing at memories.”

A charity “legacy ball” in memory of Emily is going to be held on Saturday, October 22 at the Celtic Manor Resort, with a drinks reception, three course meal as well as an auction, raffle, entertainment and disco.

Ms Dunn is also encouraging people to sign up to run the Cardiff Half.
