OFFICERS from RSPCA Cymru are appealing for information to find the owner of a pony which had impaled itself on a gate in Pontypool.

The horse was rescued on Saturday, July 23, with personnel from the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service assisting officers from the RSPCA.

RSPCA inspector Selina Chan attended the scene on Blaendare Road following a call from the fire service.

She said: “The poor stallion had trapped himself on a gate. He was impaled behind his front leg which was around four inches deep. He couldn’t move at all and must have been in a lot of pain.

“A vet called to the scene sedated him and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service were able to cut him free.”

The horse is currently recovering but the RSPCA are keen to find the pony’s owner.

“He is now in our care and receiving veterinary treatment. He has a puncture wound and is sore but is doing well. He is very lucky to be alive and is such a nice pony,” she added.

“We are appealing for information to try and track down his owner. If we are not able to find an owner, he will be made available for rehoming.”

Anyone who may have information about him should contact the RSPCA inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018 and all calls are treated in confidence.
