TORFAEN’S MP Nick Thomas-Symonds has praised a community scheme which provides free clothing to residents for job interviews.

The MP met with the team behind the Torfaen ‘Dress to Impress’ scheme to learn more about how it is having a positive impact on local people.

The initiative was created through the partnership of Melin Homes and Torfaen County Borough Council as part of its Bridges into Work scheme aiming to give free, interview-appropriate clothing to Torfaen residents for upcoming interviews.

The scheme states dressing appropriately is often seen as a test of a candidate’s familiarity with the company and industry.

According to ‘Dress to Impress’ it’s vital that the candidate feels confident in the knowledge that they look smart so they can focus on presenting themselves in an interview situation.

Mr Thomas-Symonds said: “We need to be supporting people into work and having an appropriate outfit can make a candidate feel more comfortable in the interview,” he said.
