CROWDS are expected to flock to a Torfaen venue later this month to sample the best from local producers and crafters.

On Sunday, January 29, Cwmbran-based rural heritage centre Llanyrafon Manor will host several stalls at its popular 'Food and Craft Market' which takes place on the last Sunday of every month.

On the day, visitors will have the opportunity to sample a wide variety of products ranging from farm fresh fruit, veg, meat and eggs to artisan bread fresh out of the oven.

An assortment of talented crafters will also showcase their wares, with items ranging from delicate gifts to home furnishings against the backdrop one of Cwmbran's most historic venues.

The Grade II listed building functions as a heritage centre and museum and is regularly used as a venue for weddings, private and corporate events.

All items sold at the market are also locally sourced and handcrafted and all guests will receive free entry into the house and grounds on the day.

The market was originally developed as part of the 'Taste of Torfaen' project funded under the Wales Rural Development Programme (RDP) which aims to support land based production and food tourism.

After a successful pilot between October 2012 and October 2014, a market steering group was developed to gather the views of stallholders and ensure the market's future success.

A statement on the Llanyrafon Manor website states that the market provides a "opportunity for small-scale producers to sell directly to the consumer" and that customers are able to "ask questions about the production of their products, from the people who know their product the best."

The market will take place between 11am - 3pm and for more information or to book a stall contact 01633 648562.
