PUPILS from Garnteg Primary
School visited the South Wales Argus
and Free Press newsroom in the
run up to the publication today of
a a newspaper they were part of
creating.
Your Free Press today includes the
first edition of The Buzz which pupils
from five Torfaen Schools have
spent the past few weeks creating.
The visit by year 6 pupils of Garnteg
Primary School last week was
all part of the build up to today’s
launch.
Kai Baldwin, 11, said that they
came to find out how a newspaper
is produced and to tell the staff at
the Argus about their own paper.
Phoebe Manning, 10 said “I
was really impressed with all the
things going on and how fast people
typed.”
The Free Press is delighted to feature
the newspaper called The Buzz
from page 25 of this week’s edition.
The newspaper has been created
in a joint project involving pupils
from Abersychan Comprehensive
School, Blaenavon VC Heritage
School, Cwmffrwdoer Primary
School, Garnteg Primary School
and Victoria Primary School.
The initiative is part of a creative
project to improve writing standards
and the pupils have focused on
a wide range of topics.
These include the latest craze for
doing the ‘dab’, tips for a bottle
flipping challenge and the story of
Alfie the school chicken.
Free Press editor Nicole Garnon
said: “The resulting newspaper the
pupils have produced is fantastic.
We are delighted to have been asked
to be involved with this great project.”
