PLANS to rebuild a fire-damaged Torfaen school took a step forward this week when councillors approved new building plans.
On Tuesday, March 14, Torfaen County Borough Council’s planning committee green-lit plans for a new single storey infant block extension and 46-space car park at Coed Eva Primary School.
The new buildings will replace the fire-damaged infant and nursery block which were destroyed on New Year’s Day 2016.
The plans were passed on several conditions, which include building works starting within the next five years and clauses on highway safety and ground drainage.
As previously reported by the Argus. Torfaen CBC approved a £3.7million spending limit to carry out design work to replace Coed Eva’s fire-damaged buildings.
Torfaen CBC’s insurer will contribute £2.95 million to a replacement building which will link to the existing school site.
Pupils will continue to use portable buildings until the new buildings are completed and the rental cost will be met by the insurer until December 2017.
