FROM Pontypool Museum's digital archives are two images which take a look back at the acting prowess of the Torfaen town.

Although more famous for its heavy industrial processes, Pontypool has unearthed an array of Thespian talent from across the art form.

From the contemporary Pontypool-born star of Beauty and the Beast Luke Evans and the director of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story – Gareth Edwards – with links to the town, to historic icons of Jane Arden and Jennifer Daniel, a glut of greatness has originated from the corner of south Wales.

One of the images shows an amateur dramatic group, known as the Wesley Guild Drama Group in 1928, performing the play The School for Scandal.

Written in the late 1700s by Richard Brinsley Sheridan, the comedy centres on the spreading of scandals to cause ruptures in relationships.

The other image appears to show what looks like an outdoor performance of the play.

These images were donated by the Pontypool Museum as part of its digital archive, which aims to preserve historic documents, images and records from the area.
