BUDDING reporters from Torfaen schools are back with a new instalment of The Buzz newspaper.

Pupils from five county schools are busy writing articles and taking photographs for their new publication ready to feature in the Free Press on Wednesday, June 7.

A cluster of five schools - including Blaenavon VC Heritage School, Garnteg Primary School, Victoria Primary School, Cwmffrwdoer Primary school and Abersychan Comprehensive - are involved in the creative project to improve literacy in an interesting and engaging way.

The pupils have joined forces on a number of creative projects and workshops throughout primary school until year 7, where they will all attend comprehensive school.

Rhian Hutchings, creative director, said the pupils interviewed members of the community to talk about their memories. The aim was to change their attitude to learning and think about gaining information in a different way.

Niamh Scrivens, a pupil at Victoria Primary, said: "Looking at newspapers changed our style of writing."

Nia Rees, also from Victoria Primary School, said: "We are learning about photography and how that can tell a story."

The first instalment of The Buzz featured in the Free Press in February followed by a special presentation of their stories to parents and dignitaries.
