FROM Pontypool Museum’s digital archives are two images which take a look back at two former train stations in the area.

Before the Beeching Axe in the 60s, trains chugged all over Torfaen from the north to the south of the borough and vice versa during the days of industrialisation.

One image shows enthusiasts on the last time ride to Blaenserchan and the other is of the last train at Cwmavon station. These images were donated by the Pontypool Museum as part of its digital archive, which aims to preserve historic documents, images and records from the area.

To find out more about the digital archive, contact the museum at pontypoolmuseum@hotmail.co.uk or call 01495 752036.

The Free Press thanks the museum for allowing the paper to use these images.
