TWO long-serving members of the Blaenavon Town Band have received civic awards in recognition of their services to music.

Lynn Davies and Evan Smith were recognised by the Blaenavon Town Council for their roles in performing and continuing the group’s long-standing tradition in the Torfaen town.

Mr Davies received the award for his services as a committee member and trustee of the band, while Mr Smith was awarded for his time spent as a playing member and as a youth tutor.

In addition to his civic award, May was a successful month for the youth tutor who helped young musicians of the Blaenavon Town Band claim a silver award at the South East Wales Brass Band Association (SEWBBA) Spring Festival Contest, held in Merthyr Tydfil.

“The youth section, taken by its tutor Evan Smith, played a short programme of music and was delighted to have achieved a silver award,” said the band’s secretary Paul Miles.
