A CAMPAIGN to raise funds for a disabled child’s operation in the US has reached £52,000 in just four months of fundraising.

Earlier this year, Jessica Hope, of Garndiffaith, launched the Lincoln’s Leg’s appeal to help raise £100,000 for her son, Lincoln, who has cerebral palsy.

The five-year-old’s proposed operation, a spinal dorsal rhizotomy, would be followed by physiotherapy. Without it, he could spend his entire life in a wheelchair.

The funding appeal recently received a £37,000 boost after Frankie Boyle donated his talents, free of charge, for a ticketed fundraising gig in September. Around £5,100 will be deducted from ticket sale totals for venue hire costs.

Lincoln’s mum said: “At the beginning it felt like a massive, massive unachievable amount to raise.”

“We have been so lucky with the support we have received and we have lots of people fundraising on our behalf. Local companies have donated their services, products and time to help us achieve what we have and we cannot begin to thank them all enough.”

The comedy materialised after Mrs Hope contacted comedian Francesca Martinez, who also has cerebral palsy, about a possible show.

The comic then put the Torfaen family in touch with Boyle.

Other upcoming appeal events include a quiz night at Pontnewynydd Sports and Social Club on August 18. It starts at 7.30pm and entry is free.

There will also be a live music event on September 1, at the same time and location.

The Frankie Boyle and Francesca Martinez gig is on September 9, at 7.30pm, in St David’s Hall in Cardiff. Tickets are £26.50.

Mrs Hope is also being sponsored to take on a 95-mile, eight-day trek across the Brecon Beacons next month.
