A CWMAVON comedian will be making the short journey across the Brecon Beacons National Park as he prepares to perform at the sold-out Green Man festival in Crickhowell.

Owen Niblock, 36, will be performing on Friday, August 18 at the Last Laugh comedy stage alongside comics including Lolly Adefope and many more.

Originally from Atherstone in Warwickshire, he last appeared at the festival in 2014 but is not sure whether it will be his second or third overall performance.

“I actually can’t remember. I’ve performed at least twice before - possibly three times but since having children - life’s a blur,” he said.

“It’s an honour to be asked back. It’s a great festival with top acts so I’ll enjoy going to the festival as much as I enjoy getting up to perform.

“It’s been a while since I was last there, when my daughter was a tiny baby.”

“What really sets out any festival as a nice one to perform at, for me anyway, is whether I’d want to go to the festival anyway.

“I’d definitely go to Green Man festival if I wasn’t performing - the line-up this year is fantastic.”

The comedian has been performing for almost 14 years after he was bitten by the bug while at university and was further inspired by the Edinburgh Fringe.

“I watched a lot of comedy at university and really got in to it,” said Mr Niblock.

“It was going to the Edinburgh Festival and seeing comedians at all different levels that made me realise I could do it myself.”

He describes his acts as telling “jokes and stories about my life in a quiet voice” while “sometimes playing the flute and doing a spot of beatboxing”.

The comedian has already starting planning his new shows which will be coming to a variety of different locations from the autumn onwards.

“I gig all over - the best thing to do is follow me on Facebook: facebook.com/comedian.geek.weirdo/ - if you drop me a line, I’ll let you know when I’m gigging near you,” said Mr Niblock.

“I’m working on a new show which I’ll be taking to various venues across the UK from autumn through to next year’s Edinburgh Fringe.”

And for any budding comedians and comediennes, Mr Niblock has the following advice.

“Gig as much as you can, in all different situations. Record your sets and don’t be scared to experiment and take your time working out what you want to do on stage,” he said.

“But most of all - enjoy it.”
