PEOPLE with concerns regarding the Gwent-wide shake-up of older adult mental health services will have more chances to have their say in the coming weeks.

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB) has announced three new public consultation meetings in Monmouthshire, Torfaen, Blaenau Gwent and Caerphilly.

The following meetings will be held in the evenings, as opposed to the previous consultations that had been held in the morning:

l Monday December 4 (5.30pm - 7pm) at Bulwark community centre, Chepstow

l Tuesday, December 5 (5pm - 6.30pm) at Shire Hall, Monmouth.

l Wednesday, December 13 (5pm - 6.30pm) at Abergavenny leisure centre.

l Monday December 18 (5.30pm - 7pm) at Llanhilleth Miners Institute, Abertillery.

l Tuesday, December 19 (5.30pm - 7pm) venue to be confirmed in Torfaen.

l Wednesday, January 3 2018 (5.30pm - 7pm) at Risca Rugby Club, Risca.

Earlier this week ABUHB also mooted a potential future meeting in Caldicot, following concerns by town councillors that local residents had not been made fully aware of the overhaul.

All meetings will discuss the health board’s plans to “consolidate” its dementia support services, which could close a ward close at Chepstow Community Hospital and reduce bed numbers from 72 to 67 across Gwent.

If approved, patients using the 15-bed unit would have to seek treatment at St Woolos Hospital in Newport, Ysbyty Tri Chwm Hospital in Ebbw Vale or Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr Hospital in Ystrad Mynach.

The closure at Chepstow is one of several options being considered by ABUHB, but it has been identified as the “preferred option” according to the consultation.

The consultation, which will run until January 26, 2018 can be viewed here.
