A STRETCH of the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal in Torfaen will feature in an episode of a Channel 4 TV series on Thursday.

Former Fawlty Towers star Prunella Scales and her husband, Timothy West, visited Cwmbran earlier in the year for their Great Canal Journeys, which airs at 8pm on December 7.

The couple, who have travelled the world exploring waterways, spent time talking to volunteers at the Waterworks project at Ty Coch about work to restore a mile long section of the canal.

Work on the Ty Coch section of the canal began in 2012 and to date has seen the restoration of seven derelict locks.

The project is a partnership between Torfaen council and the Monmouthshire, Brecon & Abergavenny Canal Trust, and is funded by the Heritage Lottery.

The couple also then traced the canal up to Blaenavon, paying a visit to Blaenavon Heritage Town and World Heritage Centre, before stopping at Blaenavon Ironworks where the canal was used to carry pig iron from the site for distribution around the world.
