A MAN died in hospital after a car hit two people on Commercial Street in Pontnewydd yesterday.
79-year-old Alan James, who lives in Pontnewydd, died in hospital from his injuries.
A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: "We are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision on Commercial Street in Pontnewydd which occurred around 5.26pm on Monday 4th December 2017.
"The collision involved a silver Hyundai Santa Fe and two pedestrians.
"A pedestrian, a 79-year-old man from Pontnewydd was taken to the Royal Gwent hospital and was sadly pronounced deceased later at the hospital. He can now be named as Alan James.
"Another pedestrian, a 78-year-old woman also from Pontnewydd was also taken to the Royal Gwent with minor injuries.
"The family of the deceased are being supported by specialist officers."
Police have asked that anyone witnessed the collision or that might have any information relating the incident to call 101, quoting log: 411 4/12/2017.
