PUPILS from a Cwmbran primary school visited the Senedd to attend a Network Rail event which aims to promote engineering and other subjects.

The Year Six pupils from Woodlands Community Primary School were treated to a lesson on engineering from two Network Rail STEM - science, technology, engineering and maths - ambassadors.

The schoolchildren were also treated to a safety exercise by a group of actors regarding railway dangers.

Lynne Neagle AM, who presented the children with certificates at the event, said: ‘It is great to see a major company like Network Rail making links with schools and using its skilled staff to involve children in STEM subjects, particularly engineering, especially given our strong manufacturing base in Torfaen.

"It was lovely to meet children who are interested in engineering and I think events like this can really play a big part in creating the engineers of the future."

The Network Rail event, sponsored by the AM, was organised to celebrate the contribution of rail to the economic development of communities across Wales.
