A FESTIVE-THEMED fundraiser held in the memory of a Pontypool dad who died in a car crash has helped his family raise more than £8,000 for the Welsh Air Ambulance.

Father-of-one Adam Millett, 26, was involved in a fatal crash with a lorry on Friday, September 30, 2016 at Garn Yr Erw, near Blaenavon, on the B4246.

On Saturday, December 9, Mr Millett’s family organised the Crown2Crown elf run, to raise money for the charity, adding £600 with the weekend event.

“The elf run donation total has been counted and we have raised £600,” said event organiser Chloe Millett, 24, of Talywain.

“This brings our total for the events held across the year to just over £8,000.

“We never thought we would raise so much money. This one wasn’t particularly planned as we saw it largely as a bit of fun.”

The fun runners set off from the Crown Hotel in Varteg at just after 1pm, braving the icy weather and snow to complete the six mile course to the Little Crown in Wainfelin, with young and old both participating.

“We had 70 people take part on the day which is far more than we were expecting,” said Mr Millett’s sister.

“Some people could not make it due to the weather but a lot of people that we weren’t expecting to make it did.

“It was a really fun family event. We had Ad’s daughter do part of the course with some of the other youngsters like my daughter who is four.

“They didn’t do the whole course because of the weather but at the other end of the scale, we had people in their 50s and 60s taking part.

"There were six stops at six pubs along the way. We started at around 1pm and finished at around 5.30pm.”

Miss Millett added that the family will continue to help the charity, who did their best to help her brother following the crash.

“While we are happy at doing our bit to help support the Welsh Air Ambulance, there is still that reminder that we are fundraising in Ad’s memory,”she added.

“But we will keep on going next year. We will have a break over Christmas and then come back to it in the new year.

“We don’t have any ideas in the pipeline just yet but we can hopefully raise even more money than we have this year.”
