DONATIONS are flooding in for the once active mum of three who hopes to raise enough money for a life-saving operation, after living with a one-in-a-million condition that has left her bed-bound.

Lindsay Clarke, 33, has been completely bed-bound since December, and has, over the last five years, become trapped in her own body as she has lived with a rare autoimmune disease called Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) since June 7, 2009.

After her fundraising article ran in The South Wales Argus a week ago, £4,156 has been raised with plans for more fundraising going ahead.

A fundraising day will be held for Mrs Clarke at Talywain RFC at 2.30pm on Sunday, April 20.

There will be a barbecue, Easter bonnet parade, prize bingo, a quiz, raffle, disco, and games for children, with all the funds going to Mrs Clarke’s fundraising appeal.

Mrs Clarke, from Talywain, suffers regular and aggressive seizures and cramps, during which her respiratory system shuts down – they can last hours at a time.

She has an oxygen mask and canister constantly by her bed to help her breathe during such episodes.

The condition has forced her husband, Jason, to give up work to become her full time carer as well as looking after the couple’s three children Olivia-Beth, 12, Mollie-Jai, seven, and Dylan, four.

Her only hope is to undergo an expensive stem cell transplant.

Speaking previously, Mrs Clarke told the Argus: “I absolutely, point blank, refuse for SPS to rob me of my life.”

To help boost the funds, on April 11 Victoria Village Primary School, in Abersychan, organised a special performance by the school’s brass band in the yard and pupils held a non-uniform day and made a donation to the appeal.

The surprise event was organised by the school as Mrs Clarke’s children attend there.

Speaking of her fundraising effort, Mrs Clarke added: “I hope I can also raise awareness of how debilitating, dangerous and life threatening this horrendous illness is.

“This is my attempt, out of sheer desperation, to somehow get my voice heard, before it is too late.”

She has set up a blog, which has drawn support from across the world, to document her deterioration, and a fundraising page where people can donate to help her reach her target of £300,000.
