A PONTYPOOL artist is set to hold his first showcase in his home town.

Vernon Jones will launch his exhibition, Above the Waves, at Pontypool Museum on May 13.

A specialist in painting seascapes, he has created many new artworks to celebrate this exhibit – his first in Pontypool.

It will be on display in the Oriel Barker Gallery from 10am.

His paintings are described as “hyper realistic interpretations of the many moods of the sea”.

He said: “These art works contain energy, passion and I hope a respect of the sea, as I am held in awe of its power.

“Inspiration has many moods for me regarding the sea, but in virtually all cases it involves painting something that is dynamic or a study to explore how to paint various aspects of the sea which must have movement.”

Above the Waves is part of an ongoing series of marine-themed exhibits at Pontypool Museum called Pontypool On Sea this summer, with displays of Blascka Glass and RNLI First World War artefacts being added over the coming months.
