MORE THAN £20,000 has been raised in two months to help a once-active mum-of-three who is in need of a potentially life-saving operation.

Lindsay Clarke, 33, has been bed-bound since December as a result of the rare autoimmune disease, Stiff Person Syndrome.

The condition has, gradually, seen her become trapped in her own body over the last five years, and she is in need of a £300,000 stem cell transplant.

The condition has forced her husband, Jason, to give up work to become her full time carer as well as looking after the couple’s three children Olivia-Beth, 12, Mollie-Jai, seven, and Dylan, four.

Donations have poured in on an online fundraising page since Mrs Clarke’s story was first told, with £20,082.00 being raised, and numerous community events have been held to further the fund.

A fundraising day will be held for Mrs Clarke at Talywain RFC and Victoria Village Primary School, in Abersychan, organised a special performance by the school’s brass band in the yard and pupils held a non-uniform day and made a donation to the appeal.

After hearing about the fundraising effort, Amanda Parker, who works for Bron Afon, alongside Lindsay’s sister, Lisa, wanted to help.

She checked with Mrs Clarke before creating a video clip for YouTube with the help of her two daughters, Stacey, 16, and Antonia, 14.

She said: “We used photographs and footage that Lindsay had released on her blog and pieced them together as we wanted a high impact clip.

“People who have watched it find it very emotional, so I hope that it will spur people on to donate.”

The YouTube video, entitled One in a Million needs 300,000 Heroes, contains the message “She needs 300,000 heroes. You can be one of them.”

Speaking of her fundraising effort, Mrs Clarke added: “This is my attempt, out of sheer desperation, to somehow get my voice heard, before it is too late.”

“I absolutely, point blank, refuse for SPS to rob me of my life.”

Mrs Clarke has set up a blog to document her deterioration, which has been shared on social networking sites over 8,000 times.
