FINAL preparations are being put in place for a charity football match this Sunday to raise money for Pontypool baby Hallie-Rose Howarth, whose mum tragically died two days after her birth.

Newport County XI will play Caerleon Town AFC at Coronation Park (Newport Corries’ groound), at 1pm to raise money for Hallie-Rose, the daughter of Caerleon player Lee Howarth.

Caroline Howarth suffered a severe asthma attack that inhibited her breathing and that, coupled with an already decreased level of oxygen in her blood, caused her to go into cardiac arrest during an emergency caesarean section to deliver Hallie-Rose.

Mrs Howarth died on May 10.

Event organiser Lisa Savage of Newport County, said: “Everything we were hoping to have sponsors for, has now got a sponsor.

“The Smile Council – Newport County’s fundraising group – has bought Caerleon Town new kit and Newport City Radio has got on board and will be doing the match announcing.

“We will also have some local bands playing, but they are still to be confirmed.

“The Territorial Army will be there with their medical vehicle doing demonstrations and South Wales Fire Bridge will also be in attendance.”

The day will also feature a variety of stalls and six luck County fans will have the opportunity to pay to play with their sporting heroes.

There will also be raffle prizes, and an eight-page souvenir programme made by Newport County programme team will be on sale.

Newport Transporter Bridge will be open, making it easier for those wishing to take part in the event to cross from the west to the east of the city.

Mr Howarth plans to put the money raised from the match in a trust fund for Hallie-Rose to access when she turns 18.
