A RECYCLING team from a local social landlord has been shortlisted for a housing award.

The team, from Bron Afon Community Housing, is up for 24 Housing magazine’s, Best Green Scheme category in their annual awards, which “recognises outstanding organisations and individuals, who have demonstrated their ability to thrive in the new housing landscape”.

The award ceremony will take place at Aston Villa FC in Birmingham in November this year.

Bron Afon’s logistics manager, Dave Smith, said: “We are really pleased to have been nominated. It’s a testament to the hard work done by staff to make sure that things don't end up in landfill and that usable items go to people who need them.”

Metals, wood waste, cardboard and plastic are some of the materials delivered everyday to the team’s site in Cwmbran for recycling.

Any furniture, toys, appliances and other objects, which are in a good condition but have been left in unrented Bron Afon homes, are collected and donated to the TRAC2 charity shop in Trevethin.
