YOUNG people from Cwmbran are among the volunteers appealing for flat footballs and unwanted shoes to take on a charity trip to Africa.

The 18-strong group, which includes a handful of people from the Cwmbran Centre for Young People, together with youth workers and volunteers, will travel to Kenya for ten days in November to work alongside the Moving Mountains Trust.

The group has already raised £20,000 to cover the cost of the trip and is holding several events to raise the final £5,000.

They are hoping to take a range of items to give during a visit to an orphanage and the community and are appealing for unwanted bras, flat footballs, football kits, football nets, shoes and football shoes.

Sharon Lewis, who is among the group, said: “The aim is to give them a life changing opportunity.”

On Sunday they aim to complete the three peaks challenge, climbing the Skirrid, Blorenge and Sugarloaf Mountains. A charity car wash takes place at Abergavenny Fire Station on October 11 and a bag pack at Morrisons, Cwmbran, on October 18. To donate items call Kim on 01633 875851.
