A TORFAEN man is facing life imprisonment for raping and sexually assaulting members of his own family.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted a series of sexual offences spanning 25 years such as rape and indecent assault on seven victims, one of whom was a six-year-old girl.

The case was brought to the attention of police by the six-year-old, who said the man had touched her sexually while she was visiting his home numerous times last year.

Three of the women had been in relationships with the man and another was his own daughter.

The daughter of one of his partners was also a victim, as well as another distant family member and a sister of a partner.

Prosecutor Ieuan Bennett told Cardiff Crown Court that the man’s colleagues said he was “obsessed by sex” and that he would often talk about sex in “crude terms”.

When police checked his work computer, it was “littered with child pornography” and he had visited incest child pornography sites on his mobile phone.

His crimes included forcing his partners to engage in sexual activity without their consent, indecently assaulting his girlfriend’s sister, sexually touching his victims over and under their clothes and raping his own daughter.

Judge Stephen Hopkins QC said that when the man could not have sex with his partners he “looked elsewhere to the children to whom he had access".

He said the defendant “presents a high risk of harm to the public” and that he was considering a life sentence.

Judge Hopkins QC added: “He will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his natural life.”

An application has also been made for a Sexual Offences Prevention Order to be given.

In mitigation, the court was told that the man had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity. He will be sentenced on November 7.
