A CWMBRAN man has been jailed for 14 months after attacking his girlfriend as they celebrated their birthdays at a pub.

Cardiff Crown Court heard last week how Luke Ambrosen, 22, had been out celebrating the birthday of his girlfriend of 12 months, Sabrina Bradshaw, on September 26. His own birthday was three days later.

John Lloyd, for the prosecution, said Ambrosen became confrontational after accusing the doorman at the pub of looking at his partner. The altercation continued outside, and Ms Bradshaw then pulled out her phone to contact her sister, while the defendant hurled abuse at her.

Ambrosen, of Oaksford in Coed Eva, then snatched the phone from her and kicked her to the stomach “with great force” causing her to fall face-down onto the floor where she began to vomit, Mr Lloyd said.

The court heard, on Thursday, how Ms Bradshaw told police she had also been kicked to the left side of her face while she was on the floor.

In the meantime, Mr Lloyd said Ms Bradshaw’s sister had appeared while Ambrosen was standing over, shouting abuse at his girlfriend, who was still lying on the floor. Ambrosen then kicked Ms Bradshaw’s sister to the side of the head, Mr Lloyd said.

Ms Bradshaw spent the night in hospital, but was discharged the next day with painkillers. Her sister did not receive any hospital treatment.

The court also heard how, after the incident, Ambrosen had fled the scene and had gone into Ms Bradshaw’s home where he ripped up a dressing gown belonging to her.

Ambrosen had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to one count of assault occasioning causing actual bodily harm, one count of common assault, and one count of criminal damage.

Gareth Williams, defending, said both defendant and victim had shown signs of “reconciliation” since the incident, with Ms Bradshaw expressing her intent on resuming their relationship. He said Ambrosen was “ashamed” of his actions.

But Judge Tom Crowther QC said: “Anyone who kicks someone else when they are on the ground should go to custody.”

He sentenced Ambrosen to a total of 14 months imprisonment, of which he will serve half in custody.
