THE Deputy Minister for Culture and Sport has visited Cwmbran Stadium to look at the new facilities delivered as part of its £2million revamp.

In May, Torfaen Leisure Trust officially opened its new development at Cwmbran Stadium, and yesterday Ken Skates paid the site a visit.

One of the key features is the 500sqm soft play structure called Go Play, which can cater for up to 150 children at any one time.

There is also a new 19-element vertical adventure climbing playground called Go Vertical, a party room and cafe with seating area, along with a new 350sqm fitness suite.

Mr Skates said: “I was very pleased to see for myself the exciting work being undertaken by Torfaen Leisure Trust at Cwmbran Stadium to get more people active.

“The Go Vertical climbing wall is an excellent facility which I’m sure will inspire young people in this area to give climbing a go.

“In this tough financial climate, Torfaen Leisure Trust are an excellent example of how communities can deliver these important services.”

The trust board approved the proposals at the start of 2014 , and the works started at the stadium last December.

A commercial funding package from the private banking sector enabled the project to proceed.

Torfaen Leisure Trust chief executive Sally Church explained that the redevelopment would help deliver on several keys aims, namely to have “more people, more active, more often”, support long-term sustainability and future investment, and ensure value for money.

"We were very proud to show off the fantastic new facilities, and tell the minister all about what Torfaen Leisure Trust has achieved in less than two years," she added The Minister was also shown the progress made on the installation of the full size 3G pitch.
