POLICE are warning Cwmbran residents to lock all their windows and doors to prevent them from becoming victims of burglary this summer.
The warning comes after an increase in burglaries in the last week. The recent burglaries took place at various times of the day when occupants were either in the property or asleep. Targeted streets include: - Melbourne Court – TV stolen (insecure conservatory) - Kingsland Walk – Food stolen (insecure door) - Broadweir Road – TV stolen (insecure window) Detective Inspector Ian Bartholomew says: “I would urge home owners to think carefully about security when going to bed or leaving their property, even if it’s just for a short time. Far too many domestic burglaries occur where occupants have left windows open or doors unlocked.
He added: “Help yourself by making that extra check which could prevent you from losing cash, bank cards, televisions, computers, jewellery, car keys and your car. The chances of becoming of victim of crime in Gwent are rare, but residents need to remain vigilant. Please report any suspicious activity however big or small to us on 101.”
Police are also offering advice to residents ensure homes are secure, including locking all windows and doors, putting keys out of reach from doors and windows, hiding valuables from sight, closing curtains and locking garden gates.
