TORFAEN council marked the start of Armed Forces Week with a flag-raising ceremony at civic centre.

The ceremony took place on Monday at 10.15am and was officiated by the mayor’s chaplain, Reverend Martin Freeman.

The aim of Armed Forces Week is to raise public awareness of the contribution made to the country by those who serve and have served in Her Majesty’s armed forces.

It also gives people an opportunity to show their support for the men and women who make up the armed forces community, from currently serving troops to service families, and from veterans to cadets.
