VANDALS have destroyed areas of wild flowers along Cwmbran Drive and driven over flower beds planted on sponsored roundabouts in the area.

The damage is believed to have happened overnight between yesterday and today.

While the damage to the roundabouts can be repaired it is too late in the growing season to replant the wild flowers, which are seeded annually.

Councillor John Cunningham, executive member for neighbourhood services, said: “This is a disgusting act of pointless vandalism. These criminals clearly knew what they were doing and the flowers have been targeted deliberately.

“The wild flowers have been hugely popular and brought a lot of enjoyment to people in Torfaen. It is a shame that one or two people feel the need to ruin that enjoyment for everyone else.

“I would urge anyone with information about this to contact Gwent Police.”
