MORE than 500 children turned up for Torfaen’s National Playday event at Greenmeadow Community Farm.

Run in conjunction with Torfaen Playscheme, National Playday is the biggest UK-wide play sector event, a day full of old fashioned fun and play.

This year’s Playday theme was ‘Play more’, encouraging everyone to make sure that children and young people across the UK have the time, freedom and space to play more.

At the event on August 5, activities such as art and craft, face painting, and a tractor ride were available, and the children were allowed to hold, pet or feed the animals from the farm.

The mayor, Giles Davies also attended the event.

Executive member for communities, councillor David Daniels, said: “The day was a huge success. Greenmeadow Community Farm was the perfect venue for the event.

“Torfaen Play continues to be an outstanding service, providing an inclusive environment which promotes the huge benefits of play. I would like to congratulate all those involved in organising the event.”

Playday is a campaign which advocates the importance of play for children and young people.
