A CWMBRAN woman was introduced to royalty during an event at Westminster Abbey to mark the 70th anniversary of VJ Day.
More than 1,000 people were at the event on Saturday, hosted by the Royal British Legion, in the grounds of Westminster Abbey.
Constance King, 93, of Oakfield, Cwmbran and her daughter, Wendy Walton attended the event.
A total of 350 veterans and their relatives were also joined by David Cameron and got to speak to Prince Charles and Camilla.
Mrs King was introduced to the Duchess of Cornwall during an afternoon tea event in the grounds of the Abbey.
Mrs King’s husband, Mervyn, passed away in 2000, so she attended the event to represent him.
He served in the Fleet Air Arm and served in Burma and was on duty and present at the signing of the Japanese surrender in Singapore.
Ms Walton said: “What a wonderful day. We are so proud of all the Veterans who took part.”
At the weekend, veterans gathered on the Horse Guards Parade for a Drumhead commemoration, before marching from Whitehall and through Parliament Square to Westminster Abbey.
Along the route they were supported by military bands.
Tributes were paid to thousands of Allied soldiers, sailors and airmen who sacrificed their lives as a service was held at St Martin-in-the-Fields church in central London.
