A CWMBRAN pub has raised hundreds of pounds for charity in memory of a former regular.

Ruby's Bar and Grill, based in Thornhill in Cwmbran, collected a total of £240 and donated it to the Welsh children's cancer charity LATCH.

Natasha Herbert, the manager of the pub, said that they came up with the idea of a bucket collection to mark what would have been the 43rd birthday of former regular Lee Tudor.

As friends and family gathered to raise a toast to Mr Tudor, who died as the age of 41, he was described as a 'well-loved young man'.

"Because we knew it was going to be a busy night the owner of the pub, Gareth Steed, and myself both decided to make a collection bucket and put it on the bar," said Mrs Herbert.

"To our surprise the bucket collected a brilliant £240, which was fantastic as this was just a normal night, not even a charity night, but because of Gareth Steed and the community pub pulling together we were able to give this money to the children."

She added: "We also asked Christine Tudor, Lee Tudor's mother, what charity she would like the money given to.

"The money wasn't given to research because Christine Tudor had already raised a lot of money last year at a memorial night for Lee, so she asked the money to be spent on the children themselves as a little treat from Ruby's and Gareth Steed."
