POLICE have put in place a dispersal area this weekend following recent reports of anti-social behaviour and criminal damage in the Greenmeadow and Fairwater area of Cwmbran.

The area of the order will include: Tesco, Tesco Car Park, Bowleaze, Barnets, Clyffes, Littledean, Fairwater Square and Car Parks Surrounding Fairwater Square – starting at 5pm tonight (6 November).

Officers will be targeting the street during the weekend and any sort of anti-social behaviour will result in them being issued with a dispersal order.

The order gives police the powers to direct anyone to leave this area if they are involved in anti-social behaviour. If they return to that area after being moved on, they face being arrested.

Crime and Disorder Reduction Officer, PC Tom Delaney says: “We’ve seen an increase in criminality linked to anti-social behaviour, offences of criminal damage to property and an increase in members of the public being caused harassment, alarm and distress. Officers will be patrolling the areas regularly to enforce the Dispersal Order and to prevent incidents of anti-social behaviour. If you do see any suspicious activity, please call us immediately on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
