A YELLOW warning of fog has been issued by the Met Office today for parts of Gwent as temperatures plummeted overnight.
The warning is in place in Newport, Monmouthshire, and Torfaen from this morning until late this evening.
Temperatures plummeted below freezing across Gwent last night including in Usk where it was -2.6 degrees Celsius.
The Met Office's chief forecaster said: "One of the coldest nights of the winter so far across southern Britain. Across parts of the Midlands, east Wales and the Home Counties, the air contains rather more moisture than further south, increasing the risk of freezing fog patches.
"As often in such situations, the fog is likely to be patchy in nature, with some areas escaping entirely."
