A CWMBRAN scooter club has donated over £3,000 to charity after a successful ‘win a scooter for a fiver’ fundraising event.

Fundraisers from Cwmbran Allstars Scooter Club decided to host an event to raise money for two charities, Welsh children’s hospice charity Ty Hafan and Hafal, which supports those affected by serious mental illness.

Representatives from the charities collected their share of £3,200 earlier this month following the fun ride event, which was attended by over 70 local scooter enthusiasts.

More than 300 people bought tickets and attended the event at Woodland Road Sports and Social Centre in Croesyceiliog, Cwmbran on Saturday, March 5.

The night had a northern soul and mod theme and there were various prizes donated for the raffle including scooter parts.

The top prize was a retro LML scooter donated by Newport Wildcat Scooters.

The raffle attracted national attention with people from as far away as Manchester and Devon buying a ticket to be in with a chance of grabbing the grand prize, which ended up going to a rider from Penarth.

Bob Rendell, 50, of Wildcat Scooters pulled out the winning ticket.

He said: “We decided to fundraise towards charities that were near to the heart of many members of Cwmbran Allstars.

“They ran a similar event last year, and even with raffling off the scooter, we never thought we would raise as much as this.

"It was great catching up with people on the night and the people from the charities seemed over the moon when collecting the total amount.”

Cwmbran Allstars are also planning a John O’Groats to Lands End ride for charity in August.
