A COMMUNITY choir set up in Cwmbran following a devastating fire on New Year’s Day has recorded a song as the school continues to return to its former self.

The infant and nursery block at Coed Eva Primary School was destroyed in the early hours of the new year, after a fire was started close to the building.

The song ‘Believe’ was recorded in May at Monnow Studios, which has hosted famous bands such as Oasis, Queen and the legendary Welsh band The Stereophonics.

“The recording of the song ‘Believe’ just puts into words what a strong community we have here at Coed Eva Primary,” said headteacher Gill Ellis.

“The choir was formed after the school fire to capture the community spirit and is made up of pupils, governors, parents, staff and residents.

“The recording was an amazing experience for everyone and we hope that others love it as much as we do,” added Mrs Ellis.

The tune was written by Lyn Marsh and was performed by students, parents and members of the Coed Eva community who felt affected by the fire.

“I'm continually impressed and proud of the school and local community,” said cllr Fiona Cross, the Coed Eva ward councillor.

“There have been many positive projects and ideas that have supported the school not just financially but also emotionally.”

A video accompanying the song was loaded onto Youtube, and features images of the school on the day of the incident as well as the choir performing the song.

“The school community choir song "Believe" is yet another fantastic effort that inspires us all. I'm delighted to see their hard work come to fruition,” said cllr Cross.

“The school continues to thrive and I feel privileged to be a small part of this incredible journey. Together we really have made a difference.”

Seven individuals have been arrested and bailed on suspicion of arson at Cwmbran’s Coed Eva Primary School.

The men and boys, aged from 14 to 21, were bailed with the police and fire service carrying out a joint investigation, with the planned bail dates of Monday, July 4, and Tuesday, July 5.
