TWO Torfaen charity fundraisers have beaten their target and raised more than £3,700 this year for Cancer Research UK with the Peter Andre Fund.

Samantha Williams, from Cwmbran, has been raising money for the last three years after the death of her brother-in-law, Mark, and her cousin Kevin, both of whom died in their 40s.

After raising £1,500 in 2014, and £3,500 last year, she enlisted the help of her friend, Emma Plumpton, and between them they have now raised £3,755 with just under a week of fundraising left.

Last weekend, they had a big fundraising push which saw the collect £924 at Chepstow Racecourse, and a further £370 with a charity bake-off and fundraising day at The White Hut in Coed Eva.

Mrs Plumpton, 42, who hosted the event, said: “I enjoy putting on events and doing it for such a worthy cause is a bonus. I did one and they just went from there and before you know it you have done three or four.

“If it wasn’t for people being so generous at the raffle then we wouldn’t be able to raise so much. The bake off was fun as I got some friends and family to dress as superheroes, we had a spare Spiderman outfit which my dad got into and he loved it.”

She also raised more than £500 with a charity hike.

Mrs Williams, 44, said Peter Andre had personally asked her to continue fundraising.

“After how much I have raised last year I was going to take a break as I had been fundraising for 18 months straight," she said. "But Pete asked me to keep going.

“I was on the Lorraine show with him which was really nice as I wasn’t expecting it. I only had £1,000 as my target this year as my health has been deteriorating so I didn’t think it would be as great as it has been.”

Mrs Williams is also one of Peter Andre’s community champions - the only one in Wales - and is set to feature in a book later this year about Peter Andre’s fundraising group.

Mrs Williams, who received a Cwmbran Community Council community award last year, added: “It’s about providing an earlier diagnosis so we can reduce people’s risk of getting cancer. I’m just very lucky that my family also help out and make it possible to raise what we have.”
