A FREE weekly timed run aimed at helping children aged from four to 14 become more active is being planned for Cwmbran.

Event organisers are planning to start a junior parkrun in the Torfaen town, which is similar to the adult version but shorter in distance.

In June, the Cwmbran parkrun event was launched offering participants of all abilities the chance to complete a timed 5km course for free on Saturday mornings.

A junior parkrun is 2km long and will take place on a Sunday morning.

Organisers are also seeking help from anyone willing to become part of a team of volunteers necessary to bring the event to fruition.

Once created, Cwmbran would be the second junior parkrun in Torfaen, with an event already taking place in Pontypool on Sunday mornings.

All weekend events start at 9am.
