FAMILIES filled Pontypool Park to spend an informative afternoon of summer fun learning about fitness and health on Wednesday afternoon.

Organised by Pontypool-based housing association Melin Homes, Zest in the Park featured stalls from the social landlord, as well as Morris’s of Usk and Torfaen Leisure Trust.

Greenmeadow Community Farm brought along a number of animals for a meet-and-greet while Cycle Training Wales ensured visitors’ bikes were in tip-top condition with a free service.

“The event is a celebration of the work we do with our Zest initiative within Melin Homes,” said Sharon Crockett, the assistant director of business consultancy at Melin Homes.

“Zest is there is to promote good health, both physical and mental, as we all getting people active. Zest is turning five this year and we have made it a central part of the staff culture at Melin Homes.

“We are keen to make sure this work is expanded into the communities we serve and our residents. We are excited to not only we hope improve the wellbeing of all our residents, but also let residents young and old enjoy a fun packed day of activities,” she added.

Visitors also were able to sample reflexology and message to help relax as the final weeks of the summer holidays draw to a close.

Pontypool resident Amelia Wilson said: “It is great to have an afternoon of activities for people of all ages.

“Children can learn about how to stay healthy and about animal care while having fun at the same time. And of course there is something for the older people here as well.”
