CONSTRUCTION has started on four new homes in Trevethin on the site of a former block of flats, which were destroyed by fire 20 years ago.

A sod cutting ceremony marks the building of two two-bedroom houses and two one bedroom flats in a new initiative by Bron Afon Community Housing in partnership with Torfaen County Borough Council.

Cllr Gwyneira Clark, executive member for housing, planning and public protection, had the honour of breaking the soil on the demolition site in Elmhurst Close, which forms part of the development on the re-purposed site after the fire damaged flats had been previously demolished.

The new construction makes use of the Welsh Government Social Housing Grant funding. The contractor Holbrook Construction aims to complete the long awaited homes by the summer.
