STAFF at a youth enterprise centre that was devastated by fire are determined to bounce back and continue helping young people.

Randomz Ltd was one of the three enterprises, along with The Football Factory and the Pinnacle Fitness gym, which were destroyed by a fire at the Avondale Industrial Estate on Saturday evening.

The centre acted as a social enterprise and training academy for young people, while also housing several developing enterprises of its own.

Operating as the trading arm of the Cwmbran Centre for Young People (CCYP), the centre served not only Torfaen youngsters but also worked with those in Newport, Monmouthshire and Blaenau Gwent.

Despite losing “everything” in the blaze, chief executive Leigh Rowland is adamant that the centre will return due to its importance in the community.

“As a team we are determined to continue our good work,” said Mr Rowland. “We will temporarily be based at the CCYP but this can only be short term.

“Randomz plans to be up and running by Tuesday and would like to state to its partners that it is business as usual.

He added: “Randomz does need support, it needs equipment, funding, space and it needs it quickly due to the needs of the young people.”

Randomz provides opportunities and bespoke training for young people with the aim of giving value to the young people themselves, their communities and the local authority.

Mr Rowland claimed that one young person associated the scheme said it had “saved their life”, which he believes underlines its importance.

“It has embedded itself into services for young people,” he said. “Due to its unique framework this will leave a huge gap in provision for these young people, many of which will not attend any other service.”

A South Wales Fire and Rescue spokesman confirmed that an investigation is yet to take place as the building is “dangerous” and “structurally unsafe”.

The fire service is currently recording the fire as an “unidentified cause”.

Randomz will be temporarily based at the CCYP on Glyndwr Road in Cwmbran town centre.

Due to it being a voluntary sector organisation, all income is self-generated.
