POLITICAL figures in Torfaen have slammed the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) over their plans to close their Cwmbran office and relocate 200 jobs.

Torfaen’s MP Nick Thomas-Symonds and AM, Lynne Neagle, have met representatives of the Public and Commercial Services union to discuss plans to relocate jobs to north Cardiff.

Last Friday, the pair met members to discuss how the DWP plans for the Cwmbran Pension Centre would impact workers’ travel arrangements and the local economy.

Nick Thomas-Symonds MP said: “For many of them, travelling to Cardiff is not an option, and this closure would also have a detrimental impact on the local economy.”

Lynne Neagle AM added she was “dismayed” at the “lack of consultation with Welsh Government prior to the announcement”.
